The Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company

Welcome to the official site of the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company, or CCBDC. Based out of the Claremont Consortium, CCBDC is comprised of students from Pomona, Scripps, Pitzer, Claremont McKenna and Harvey Mudd Colleges, as well as the Claremont Graduate School. With over 100 dancers, CCBDC stands not only as one of the largest and most active communities on the Claremont campus, but as one of the preeminent collegiate ballroom dance organizations on the West Coast.

CCBDC is committed to supporting dancers at the Claremont Colleges by providing quality instruction in a variety of dance techniques and levels. Three levels of teams provide community, performance opportunities and technique, supplemented by bi-weekly classes offered in Latin, Standard, and Social dance styles that reach hundreds of students. In this way, CCBDC provides a substance- free forum for personal and artistic enrichment for students that are also committed scholars.

CCBDC is also the hub for Claremont’s vibrant social dance scene, which extends beyond the official performance company. This social dance scene includes weekly salsa, swing, and blues events that are attended by dancers throughout the southern California region. Through funding, publicity, and education, CCBDC supports the many social dance clubs on campus, which produce weekly Salsa, Swing, and blues events.

CCBDC boasts one of the and most successful competitive dance records on the West Coast. In just ten years, CCBDC’s formation dancesport team has earned seven national collegiate championships, and are a four-time champions in the formation event at the San Francisco International Open. CCBDC also provides support for its many individual competitors, who compete in Nightclub, Standard, Social and Latin styles of all levels. Each December, CCBDC hosts the Claremont Dance Festival, a weekend of dance classes with professional instructors in a large variety of styles that is attended by dancers from the LA and Southern California region. The weekend culminates in the annual Claremont Intercollegiate Showdown, an individual and formation dancesport competition that draws competitors and performers from around the country.
